Preventing Gender Based Fashion Injustice

On the evening of June 4^th, 2010, outside of Sutra Night Club in Denver, Colorado, Triston Dimery was denied entry into the club. The justification for denial of entry, was that she was wearing sneakers. She pointed out that the young man in front of her had on similar athletic footwear as she. The manager of the establishment then replied, “Only males were allowed to athletic footwear in the facility.  Women were not allow to wear sneakers in the club.”

According to Merriam- Webster dictionary, discrimination is defined as the process by which two stimuli differing in some aspect are responded to differently.

In the case of Triston Dimery, the only physical difference in the managers’ judgment was that She was a Woman. And had She been a Man, the attire worn would have been satisfactory to enter the establishment.

In America, one is not to be treated differently based of sex, race, religion, or disability. Under the federal law the following acts, discrimination based on sex is illegal;

L.A.M.E. Clothing Project is sponsoring a summer long campaign that helps to shed light on fashion injustices in a women’s empowerment movement. L.A.M.E. Clothing Project is an urban clothing line, and athletic footwear is very much about of our culture, and design esthetic. We would like to reach out to the community to help start an urban movement.

On the site www.lametoday.com we will be showcasing galleries of women from all over rocking their flyest kicks, sharing testimonials, and representing their individuality. We would also like help from everyone that supports the cause to donate a pair of shoes, protest companies that discriminate, and share their thought of what it is to be a chick with kicks.

One of those days

Have you ever had one of those days were you get up and go, but don't know what is in front of you? Lately I haven't had the same energy I started the year off with. When everyday you get up and you don't exactly know what your purpose is, or how to get to your divine destiny. As I approach graduation this fear becomes more real. And now more than ever I want to start to live my life, not a routine, but my life purpose. Sometimes I think I scare myself out of more things than can defeat me. I don't know how to get out of that habit. Like any other habit they say take it day by day, but eventually that day come that I don't follow through. And that say ultimately leads me here. Wondering will I ever amount to anything, because not only am I not making great strides, my barely crawling.

Think Pink 2010 Fundraiser Campaign

Bossy Women’s Empowerment Networks would like to introduce to you the Think Pink 2010 Campaign for Breast Cancer Awareness. We are proud to spread awareness and help in the fight against Breast Cancer.
We believe that there are so many people who are not aware of the dangers of Breast Cancer as well as the statistics and warning signs of this terrible life threatening condition. We especially understand the lack of knowledge in the urban communities. Our hope with this campaign is through fun informative fundraisers we can spread knowledge to as many people as possible and also raise funds to help with the efforts to end this fight once and for all.

Many people may not know that Breast Cancer is one of the most common forms cancers among women in the
United States. It is the most frequently diagnosed cancer among nearly every racial and ethnic group. When it comes to this condition race is not considered a factor in who will get diagnosed with this condition. However, the rates of those people dying from this disease differ among ethnic groups. This may be due to differences in specific risk factors, the biology of the breast cancer or in breast cancer screening rates and treatment. The differences in screening rates could be due to the cost of health insurance and/or lack of awareness about screening tests and access to screening facilities.

Through our efforts to support this cause and to increase awareness we have arrange The Think Pink 2010 Campaign for Breast Cancer. This Campaign will consist of 6 unique fundraisers and a Pink Ball for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. A portion of the proceeds for these fundraisers will go to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation for Breast Cancer. Susan G. Komen for the cure was founded over 25 years ago by her beautiful loving sister. The Komen Race for the Cure®, the most successful fundraising and education event for breast cancer ever created; pioneered cause-related marketing; created Komen Affiliates serving the breast health needs of millions in their communities; developed educational tools to reach people in more than 200 countries; and became the world’s largest source of private funds for breast cancer research and community outreach programs with nearly $1.5 billion invested to date.

We chose this foundation because see how valuable this foundation has been in fight this battle and are eager
to help them continue to be successful in all there efforts. We welcome and are in much need of help and support from sponsors and vendors for these fundraisers. We have secured of some of the best event venues in Colorado
to feature these fundraisers as they will be a great help in making these events a great success. We are reaching out for as much support as possible from the community as well as media. Our goal is to bring as much attention to these events as possible so we can proudly make a difference in 2010! We hope that you will join us in the fight against Breast Cancer!

Title Sports Drink/Mike McKenzie Superslam Celebrity Basketball game Friday February 5th, 2010 at Miami Norland Sr. High School

The game will feature NFL superstars, Hollywood celebrities and musical entertainers all coming together for a fun filled game of hoops to raise money for a good cause, in this instance, Mike McKenzie’s 34 Ways Foundation. This one is for the entire family parents and kids!!!! Athletes and celebrities expected to attend includes Chad Ochocino of the Bengals, Lamarr Woodley of the Steelers, Darren Sharper of the Saints,DeAngelo Williams of the Panthers, Kita Williams & Monique Jackson of the T.O. Show, R&B group Jagged Edge, and Verse Simmonds to name a few.

There will be a special half time performance and a BIG GAME Ticket giveaway!!!  So come on out and have a good time………

Love and Support

I  started  today  tired  and  a  bit  sluggish.  I  knew  I  had  so  much  to  do  and  so  little  time in  the  day.  I  finally  got  up  and  got  to  work  and  figured  out  that  it  is  better  to  build  and  team  then  take  on  the  world  alone.  I  sent  a  simple  message  out  on  facebook  and  myspace to  a  few  good  people  and  to  my  surprise  the  response  was  great.  so  many  people  to  donate  there  services  and  time  in  order  to  support  the  movement.  I  hope  that  I  can  give  them  just  a  little  of  the  boost  they  just  gave  me.  so  thank  you  to  all  of  you.  remember to  be  the  change  you  want  to  see.

I really need your help on one of our upcoming events,
"Operation Fairy God Mother" , Operation Fairy God Mother will help young women enjoy one of the most important events of their lives: their high school prom. The Event will provides free dresses, shoes and accessories to young ladies. Prom is a special time for any teenage girl, and choosing the right prom dress that's just one of the highlights of the big event. Hundreds of high school students can't afford a prom dress, and that's where the "Operation Fairy God Mother" comes in.

Girls can pick out a dress, shoes, a handbag and jewelry, and they'll get some hair and makeup tips from stylists who donated their time. Organizers are giving these girls a prom night that they will never forget, and no doubt, it raises their self esteem for these young girls.

We ask you to clean out your closet! Dresses, accessories, handbags and of shoes. Please drop off your donations at ggStrut Boutique located 821 East Broadway near the Highlands. MLK DAY

Yesterday was  MLK  DAY  as  we  all  know.  I  will  be  honest  in  saying  that  I  haven't  been  celebrating  in  about  four  years.  but  this  year  was  a  little  more  productive.  I  met  up  with  some  other  designers  and  a  just  walked  around  promoting  our  blog and  various  businesses.  we  got  a  lot  of  great  response.  it  also  showed  me  that  effort  is  effective.  and  you  have  to  take  initiative to  get  things  done.  be  the  change  you  want  to  see,  and  be  the  best  you  possible.

another late night

so  it  is  a  little  past  five  am  and  I  am  still  up  working  on  tese  websites.  being  creative  is  awesome,  but  I  have  the  issue  of  being  too  hands  on  at  times.  but  I  can  always  rest  a  sure  that  it  is  my  vision,  with  no  compromise.  so  I'll  leave  it  at  that.  I'll  post  the  links  wen  they  are  posted  and  perfect.

Me at my purest
What is the foundation on which I stand?
Before the complexities of life triggered its wrath,
The world was so small, yet a vast open land,
I don’t remember buildings, or even paths,
Nor do I recall faces, just an open hand,
Never plotting on who I was to be,
Just indulged in the things that filled me with glee,
Gloom rarely came,
Not even on rainy days,
I, me, and we would always remain,
The simplicity of destiny had me in a daze,
As I gaze quietly upon the pad,
This pen was the only aspiration I had,
What its use was varied,
When it no longer was in use, times were scary,
Pen like a plane, pad as the earth,
Mental exploration was all worth
It, as speratic images lapsing,
No glamour, glitz, or lights flashing,
To scribe things, made me a star,
Maybe just in my own mind by far,
Though near isolation,
Silence intensified my gravitation,
To a life of illustration,
Pen inked colors of celebration,
Of an unconscious revelation,
What my eyes dreamt of was mapped by my hand,
Time passes, through and through it never fails,
My sanity lies within the comforts of my creativity
No worldly activity could subdue what I am mentally
Just disturbs the process of my identity
I will not be removed from this quiet place
The comforts in which growth glides and dies
I am greatest with little component
Because what keeps me alive is what I have always grown with
Two feeds, fuels, and festers the flame which remains too glorious,
Yet overcame hurdles to be overcome,
Two deaths I would die
Life, and the pen and pad which makes me one,
It is like my sun,
The mean heats, desire, and evolution is one,
And when it is all said and done,
I would like to be remembered as my pad.
With the pen reciting eulogies,
This is me at my purest,
An open space that has been filled with a number of ideas,
But its intention is not to be heard,
But to be seen,
By those who have the capacity to breath and believe what it means to have expression
Which lingers and travels in different directions
Doing nothing more than provoking affection
This is me at my purest
